Northern Flicker in Deschutes County by Sue Dougherty

This summer I enjoyed observing a pair of Flickers nesting on my property. I found that for an hour or so in the early morning, the sun streamed in at the perfect angle to give incredible backlight to the flicker’s wing causing the wings to glow in a translucent orange.
