Here’s a photo I took of a Great Heron at Commonwealth Lake in Beaverton this morning, May 5, 2026. It was sitting on the drain, made a move to jump off and fish, and then landed back on the drain. That’s the point at which I captured this photo.
I often see it just sitting and sunning itself along the shore. This morning, it seemed to be very intent on catching something. Probably to take back to a nest? What I like more than anything about this shot is the contrast in the colors of its plumage.
