Common Ravens in Deschutes County by Ian Snyder

While hiking up South Sister, I encountered this incredible phenomenon. Well over 200 ravens had all gathered on the summit and upper slopes of the volcano. I’ve seen ravens on top of mountains many times, but I’ve never seen them in large groups, let alone hundreds at a time. They seemed to be up there mostly just socializing and playing around with each other. I think perhaps they may have been juveniles pairing up. Whatever their reason was, I feel extremely lucky to have witnessed it.
