White-headed Woodpecker confronts Pinyon Jay in Deschutes County by Sevilla Rhoads (First Place December 2025)

I took this photograph earlier this week for a student project related to the use of Sisters School District lands by birds on the 2025 Oregon Species of Concern list. Two of those species, the White-headed Woodpecker and the Pinyon Jay were competing for an iced puddle of water in the school parking lot.
