Pelagic Cruise Trip
Trip Leader: Russ Namitz, pelagic guide for birds and marine mammals.
When: May 4-7, 2019
Where: This trip will be aboard the Princess Cruise Line’s Golden Princess
sailing May 4 from Los Angeles, CA and arriving May 7 in Vancouver, BC. We will
meet on the Golden Princess in Los Angeles. Participants must arrange their own
cruise reservations and all travel to & from the ship. You will need a passport

Site conditions and birds: This trip is for birders who would like to try
cruise ship birding. Birding will be done from the deck at the bow or other
suitable location depending on conditions. The birding can involve long periods
of standing in cool, wet, and windy conditions. Cruise ships are generally
stable and a spotting scope highly recommended due to distance to birds and
vast viewing area available.
Expected species are Laysan/Black-footed Albatross, Northern Fulmar,
Pink-footed/Black-vented/Sooty Shearwater, Fork-tailed/Ashy/Leach’s
Storm-petrel, Red Phalarope, Sabine’s Gull, Arctic/Common/Elegant Tern,
Pomarine/Parasitic/Long-tailed Jaeger, and alcids including Tufted Puffin.
Possible rarities include Cook’s Petrel, Murphy’s Petrel, Hawaiian Petrel,
Flesh-footed Shearwater, Parakeet Auklet, Scripps’s Murrelet, Red-billed
Tropicbird and Brown Booby.
